Bill Richardson nominated…the payback continues….

Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, who stunned Hilary Clinton during the Democratic primary by throwing his weight behind Barak Obama, has been nominated by the President-elect to be Secretary of Commerce (http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/stories/2008/12/01/daily27.html).

Richardson, who was catapulted into the national spotlight in part at least thanks to President Clinton, was considered by many in Hilary Clinton’s campaign to have been a traitor to her cause, instead supporting Senator Obama and providing him a much needed boost among latino voters.  James Carville, an advisor to Senator Clinton’s campaign, even went so far as to call Richardson a “Judas” (http://www.nmfbihop.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=856) for his transgression.

Richardson’s career has been one of little distinction, with the exception of being a noted glad-hander among the Washington pols.  Clearly, this is payback for the knife he so glady plunged into Hilary Clinton’s back during the primary.  Let’s all be fortunate that he’s only been nominated for Secretary of Commerce, not something really important.  It’s unfortunate that with the support from the hispanic community that Obama received, he has not pushed forward any substantive cabinet nominees in return.
